Lane Hutson has been taking the NCAA by storm. The defenseman, who was drafted 62nd overall in the 2022 NHL entry draft, with 39 points in 30 games, is currently second overall in points in the NCAA trailing Macklin Celibrini who is leading with 48 points. Hutson is one of two defenseman in the top 10 point leaders in the NCAA, the second one being Canucks prospect Tom Willander (4 Games played 7G 10A).

Lane Hutson's NHL comparison has shown to be none other than Quinn Hughes. His playing and skillset in Boston College is extremely similar to Hughes's during his time in Michigan. Hughes is currently leading all NHL defesemen in scoring.
At the age of 18, Hutson set a new record for points by a defenseman under the age of 19, scoring his 48th point of the year while playing for Boston University. This achievement surpassed the previous record held by Hockey Hall of Famer Brian Leetch, which had stood for 35 years goterriers.com/roster The Montreal Canadiens fanbase is absolutely ecstatic at the thought of Hutson joining the team in the near future, he will fit right in with the system that the team has in place and the attention they give to their young players. Martin St. Louis has been expressed to be a wonderful coach for the younger players, giving them big opportunities, putting them in tough situations that can lead to a learning experience, and just being a great coach all around.
While there is no rush to bring him up and we want to give him his time to develop and feel as prepared as possible, it's still something to look forward to in the near future.
