The 2024 NHL Trade Deadline saw some highs and definitely some lows, but what moves were the most notable around the hockey world?

Every year there are some remarkable names who get moved from their teams. The 2023 NHL trade deadline held names like Patrick Kane (from Chicago Blackhawks --> New York Rangers), Max Domi (from Chicago Blackhawks --> Dallas Stars), Jakob Chychrun (from Arizona Coyotes --> Ottawa Senators), and many more. Was the 2024 Trade Deadline beneficial or counter productive for teams around the league?

While the Montreal Canadiens had a relatively quiet deadline, which was expected, the one big trade that they conducted was one that fans were anxiously waiting for. Jake Allen, traded to the New Jersey Devils for a conditional 3rd round pick in the 2024 entry draft, while Canadiens also retained 50% of his salary until the end of his contract (2025). In Montreal, Jake Allen (6-12-3) was amidst a three goalie rotation along side Samuel Montembeault (13-11-5) and Cayden Primeau (5-6-2). He was a leader in the locker room and helped lead the team to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, the players and staff have nothing but positives to say about Allen.

Although the Canadiens had a slower trade deadline, other teams had some riveting trades. The biggest move this deadline goes to the Pittsburgh Penguins and Carolina Hurricanes for Jake Guentzel who joined the Hurricanes for forwards Michael Bunting, Ville Koivunen, Vasily Ponomarev, and Cruz Lucius, as well as a conditional 2024 first-round pick, and a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick.

Some other notable trades:

  1. Tomas Hertl --> Vegas Golden Knights

  2. Tyler Toffoli --> Winnipeg Jets

  3. Jack Roslovic --> New York Rangers

  4. Casey Middlestadt - Colorado Avalanche

  5. Yakov Trenin - Colorado Avalanche
