The Montreal Canadiens have experienced a season marked by both challenges and strength. After a promising December surge that briefly positioned them in a playoff spot, the team faced a downturn, managing only one win in a nine game stretch. However, recent performances following the Four Nations break suggest a potential turnaround as the Canadiens have secured five consecutive victories, reigniting hopes for a playoff berth.
As the March 8th trade deadline approaches, will General Manager Kent Hughes face any critical decisions? With the recent signing of forward Jake Evans will the management be looking to move other pieces? Not forgetting another season ending injury to Kirby Dach, will they be in the market for another piece to centre the second line. Dylan Cozens, a young, talented centre, has been linked to the Canadiens, who are allegedly looking to add to their lineup. Reports suggest that the Sabres were open to discussions but had a high asking price for Cozens. A proposed trade scenario involved the Canadiens sending forward Kirby Dach, defenseman Logan Mailloux, and a 2025 second-round pick to Buffalo in exchange for Cozens. Or will Owen Beck get a to chance ride his praises.
The upcoming deadline has presented both challenges and openings for the Montreal Canadiens. Strategic decisions by the management could bolster the team, addressing back end shortcomings and enhancing offensive capabilities. The balance between immediate performance and long-term development remains a focal point as the Canadiens strive to secure a spot in the postseason. Will Hughes surprise us yet again at this deadline?
